    bitch plz, master
    You are in your twenties
You can still hear reasonably well and you can play this without my old fart colleagues hearing it which makes you feel kinda good.

The highest pitched ultrasonic mosquito ringtone that I can hear is 15.8kHz
Find out which ultrasonic ringtones you can hear!

So this is weird. When the files were downloaded to my Mac, I could only hear the 14.9 KHz. When I played it in the web page, I could heard the 15.8. How odd!

Glassbooth.org is yet another tool to find out whom you should vote for in the 2008 presidential election. There are 2 steps. First step: give weighting to the issues you care about most. You have 20 points to assign to issues such as taxes and budget, Iraq and foreign policy, gay rights and so on. You can't proceed to the question part until you assign all your points.

Step 2: based on your weighting, you have more or fewer questions on each topic, which you can mark on a 5-point scale from Strongly Oppose to Strongly Support. Or you can skip questions altogether.

Based on my first round of quiz-taking, I came out with 84% agreement with... Mike Gravel! But unlike other sites, Glassbooth makes it easy to see where you agree and disagree on each topic with the candidates. What puts me in fruitbat-land is "Strongly support gay marriage." Sadly the big 3 candidates do not support it very strongly. Glassbooth lists candidates' quotes on the issues, so for example on gay marriage, Senator Obama says:
Says in his 2006 book The Audacity of Hope that "It is my obligation, not only as an elected official in a pluralistic society but also as a Christian, to remain open to the possibility that my unwillingness to support gay marriage is misguided...and that in years hence I may be seen as someone who was on the wrong side of history."
    Amen, sir.

So I reweighted my interests and backed off some of my strongly support answers. And my results were then less surprising. With Edwards I have 83% similarity. Obama, 82%. Clinton, 81%. Mike Gravel goes down to 80%, then the next most similar at 59% is Willard "Mittens" Romney.

This explains my seemingly laissez-faire attitude to whomever gets the Democratic nomination. I'm a statistically insignificant match with the top 3!

I don't know if the weighting makes it any more significant than any of the other quizzes. But as I said 3 weeks ago, it certainly doesn't hurt to educate yourself on the candidates' positions on the issues, apart from campaign rhetoric.

I read some valid criticism of the fluffy "Which candidate are you" quiz that's floating around, and which I also posted here the other day. Here's what I think about it:

    • These quizzes come from the same websites that have given us "What should your Victorian name be?" and "What color is your aura?" If anyone gives any more weight to this Internet quiz than they would any other source... well, that explains the 2004 election results.

    • Yes, there are some strong ideological slants in the questions. But that can be true of any poll. An anti-gun control poll could ask you "Do you think that citizens should have the right or freedom to own guns?" A pro-gun control poll might turn it around to say, "Do you think guns should be kept out of the hands of dangerous criminals?" Any poll can design questions to get the results they want.

    • That being said, there is value to turning off the television, ignoring the campaign rhetoric and advertisements, and just listing the issues you care about vs. the candidates. I'm so sick of reading about people who say they voted for a candidate because they liked his wife, or didn't like the other guy's wife. Or the infamous "I'd like to have a beer with the guy." I don't want to have a beer with my president! I want him/her working on presidential stuff!

    • No candidate will match your positions on everything. I take exception to Senator Obama's position on corn subsidies and ethanol. But what can the man do: he's from Illinois.

    • My quiz results came out 90% match with Mike Gravel, but he comes across like your crazy Uncle Larry. I sure as hell am not going to vote for him.

I think what puts me up into fruitbat category is my support for gay marriage. Also probably my opinion that casual drug use should be decriminalized. (I don’t partake myself, but it makes no sense to throw a pot-smoker in the same prison with a rapist or a mobster.)

Is Tom Tancredo even still in the running? *snort*
