Trader Joe's is coming to Princeton soon!

Not only that, it's only a 3 mile walk from my house! I can exercise and buy overly priced yuppie treats!

I've only been writing to them for the past few years begging them to come to Princeton! Foodies with too much discretionary income? We're hip deep in 'em! A Princeton store is a license to print money!

Yes, I'm a little excited.

American Paul Krugman wins economics Nobel

New York Times columnist, Princeton professor commended for analysis

STOCKHOLM, Sweden - Princeton economist and New York Times columnist Paul Krugman won the Nobel economics prize on Monday for his analysis of how economies of scale can affect trade patterns and the location of economic activity.

Krugman was the lone winner of the 10 million kronor ($1.4 million) award and the latest in a string of American researchers to be honored.

The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences praised Krugman for formulating a new theory to answer questions about free trade.

“What are the effects of free trade and globalization? What are the driving forces behind worldwide urbanization? Paul Krugman has formulated a new theory to answer these questions,” the academy said in its citation.

“He has thereby integrated the previously disparate research fields of international trade and economic geography,” it said....

...The citation said Krugman’s approach is based on the premise that many goods and services can be produced at less cost in long series, a concept known as economies of scale.

His research showed the effects of that on trade patterns and on the location of economic activity.
Couldn't happen to a nicer economist. Plus, Princeton, shout-out!

If you'd like to congratulate Professor Krugman, you could leave a comment on his NY Times blog. Mega-eco-w00t~!

A brand new restaurant has opened up a few miles down the road from us, and Hubby & I will be having dinner there tonight at 6:30! Whee, new foodie places!

Things may not be as bad as they seem!

Huzzah! )
For dinner tonight, we met up with Hubby's good pal whom he used to work with, and her husband. It was nice, feeling like we were just out at a normal dinner, not because we have no kitchen! We went to our favorite Princeton seafood restaurant. I had never had their crab cakes, so I gave them a try. Bonus: they ask you if you want them broiled or fried! Options! So I had two crab cakes and a baked potato, and I ate half and saved the rest for tomorrow night.

Our friends will be leaving for a few weeks next month to finalize their baby's adoption! And they've asked us if we can house/cat-sit for a few weekends while they're gone. Talk about your win-win. They get cat care, we get to live in a house, not a construction site! That will be sometime in February. By then it will seem like a weekend at the beach!

Deeply uncool!

Car windows smashed, GPS units stolen

WEST WINDSOR -- Thieves struck at the MarketFair shopping plaza on Route 1 as two GPS navigation units were stolen from vehicles at about the same time, according to police.

Detectives believe burglars broke into a car parked outside of P.F. Chang's sometime between 6:30 and 9 p.m. on Thursday by smashing the driver's side window, which cost $250 to repair. Police said a $200 GPS unit was taken by the thieves, who broke into another car just across the shopping center.

Outside TGI Friday's restaurant, a $450 GPS was stolen after a front window on the passenger side was smashed between 7 and 9 p.m. The damage cost $250.

Police are advising mall shoppers to hide their GPS units, as well as the suction cup mounts that hold the device, before leaving their cars.

Yuck! This mall is only 5 minutes from where I live. I need to start taking my GPS suction cup mount out when I'm not using the GPS. Sure, it's a pain in the butt, but dealing with car insurance and getting my window replaced is an even bigger pain in the button.

So. This weekend was pretty nice. Friday night was mellow. Saturday we did nothin'. Hubby went out for his first real outdoor bike ride of the season. I stayed in because (a) still can't ride a bike *BLUSH* and (b) I have yet to suffer real serious allergy symptoms and I don't want to press my luck.

Saturday evening, Dr. M & Dr. H came over for cookout -- burgers, corn, salad -- and a 4-episode marathon of Doctor Who, Season 3! Hubby and I had seen "Smith and Jones" the weekend we, um, acquired it, but we hadn't seen the rest. And then the fourth episode finished... acquiring while we were watching the other three! "Shakespeare Code" was my favorite. It could have been really gimmicky and dumb, but it turned out really great.

Sunday, again with the doing nothing, until that evening. We took the shuttle over to Princeton and met some friends for dinner. It was perfect weather for a nice walk around town.

The cats are recovering from their ordeal. Hubby tried mixing their medicine in with their wet food, and that seems to be working OK! I hope they're getting the right amount. I noticed Fido wasn't eating his breakfast this morning. But wrestling them to the ground and shoving a shot into their mouths was terrifying them, and making Hubby want to cry. (I guess I'm a heartless bitch because, while I sure didn't like it, I knew it was a necessary evil so they will stay healthy.) Plus Hubby went to DC last night for an all-day meeting, and there's no way I could have dosed both cats by myself. They seemed to be looking around for him last night. They love their daddy.

Will write more later. I'm not feeling too great. Somehow last night I managed to strain or pull my left calf, even though I haven't been to the gym in almost a month. (These two things may well be connected.) I can kind of walk on it, but it hurts like hell.

Two and a half goddamn hours

Roads were still closed, and there was only one road out of Princeton. Took me 2 1/2 hours to traverse what should normally be a 25-minute ride. What was most vexing was that, once I finalllllly got to Route 1, it literally took 5 minutes to drive south to Meadow Road and get home.

That. Blows.

till Christmas! Eeps!

We had a busy weekend, but fun. But first, did you see Battlestar on Friday night? Nukes hurtling toward the planet, Starbuck falling out of the sky, Cylons massing for an attack... aaand g'night, folks! See you in January! Consider that cliff hung.

Saturday afternoon )

We had some time to relax before we had to get ready for Hubby's company's Christmas party Saturday night )

This is getting long, and I'm still at work, so I think I'll have to finish this later.

Oy, this morning

You ever have a meal so good, you don't want to even drink anything afterwards, because you don't want to lose the taste? I just took Hubby to the Ferry House in Princeton for his birthday dinner, and this was quite possibly one of the top 5 best meals I've ever had! Prepare to drool )

Oh my God, y'all. Just took a great long walk with Hubby! We decided to walk over to the Market Fair, a little mall near us. I'd never done it before, but Hubby has. I was amazed by how much ground we covered in such a short time! Check out our route as calculated by GMap-Pedometer.com. We walked just over 5 miles in 1 hour and 24 minutes, or about 3.57 mph. It was excellent! We got to Market Fair, bought some treats at the Barnes & Noble Cafe (I had an iced decaf coffee and a chocolate biscotti; not bad, 3 points), then headed right back home because I didn't want to be crossing the highway in the dark.

I'm so glad I didn't go to the gym, and opted to walk with Hubby instead. Man, I feel so good! Plus we had good couple-y time. Bonus!

OK, so I earned 3 points this morning, and I earned another 3 points on this walk. (I burned 385 calories or about 4.5 cals/minute.) Apparently there's some discussion as to whether you should eat more than 4 AP's in a day, even if you earned more than 4. I'll err on the side of caution and give myself 4 edible AP's (hurrr), even though we know I really earned 6.

I totally rawk. \m/

I had my first real wine snob moment the other day. I was thumbing through a copy of Princeton magazine, which is supposed to feature all the nifty things you can do in our area. On the cover was some new B&B in Lawrence Township. It looked nice and I guess it was supposed to be pretty swanky. And on the cover photo of the B&B was the owner, smiling and sitting on her lovely couch, with a lovely coffee table, upon which was a lovely bottle of w--

"Wait a minute," I thought to myself, "she put out a bottle of Yellow Tail for the photo shoot? Geez, couldn't she have broken out the good stuff?" Oy, how mean of me.

I mean, Yellow Tail is a perfectly nice Australian wine. For the price, it's very decent. I just think that if you want to emphasize the gracious living aspect of your B&B, go nuts and put out a bottle of wine that costs more than $10!

Quelle snob.

I had a date Friday night

with my husband! We got all dressed up and went to the Lawrenceville Inn, which is in a lovely little Victorian house right on 206 in Lawrenceville. Hubby had gone here for a work thing a couple months ago, and has said ever since that I really should go and I would like it a lot. He was right!

It's a BYO, so we brought along a bottle of our favorite pinot noir. I started with the crab cake appetizer, and DH had a special, pumpkin soup. I love crab cakes, but DH's soup was really lovely too. Even their freshly-baked rolls were so good!

For dinner, I had roasted Griggstown chicken (all the fine restaurants in the area serve something from Griggstown, and it really is worth it) with a creamy pumpkin and butternut squash risotto. DH had filet mignon with bearnaise sauce.

And for dessert DH had "molten chocolate souffle" and I had blueberry and pear cobbler with a little scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side.

Everything was so good. It was our best date since we got married.
