It occurs to me that that would be a good solution for our music files too. Then we could just point our iTunes libraries to the network drive. I'm just nervous that I wouldn't be able to do that if I had a Mac.
Hubby is now interested in buying a laptop, as am I. He doesn't travel for work that often, but when he does he really wishes he had a decent laptop. For meetings, he could update his own reports and presentations. When he's in the hotel, he could play games or watch movies. He was pricing Core Duo laptops on Newegg.com. Pickings are still slim, but you can get a really packed one for much less than a Macbook Pro.
I have to start reading the PC magazines again and find some hands-on reviews of the Core Duo laptops. Apparently there may be a Microsoft issue that drains the batteries on the Core Duos. I will not be traveling with the laptop, but I'd be happier if I could wait till any Microsoft/Core Duo issue was resolved. And maybe Microsoft Vista will be much better.
And maybe proverbial monkeys will fly out of my proverbial keister.

So I'm thinking about making the Switch.
No, not that kind of switch, I'm talking about The Switch.
Why? Well, why not? What do I use my various computers for? Surfing the net; keeping my iPods (yes, plural) topped up with content; downloading and editing photos; the occasional video editing. Nothing particularly PC-specific there. Macs can do everything I listed as well as, if not better than, my existing system. I think the iPod has removed any danger that Apple just going to shrivel up and disappear.
My one concern was if a Mac would be able to integrate into our home network and use the internet connection we've already got set up, but it's looking like that shouldn't be a problem.
Hubby and I will wait to see what announcements come from the Macworld Expo in two weeks and see how to proceed from there. I should probably wait to see what the Intel-based Macs will bring. Plus I need to save up a little more cashola.
So when my laptop goes on to its inevitable reward, perhaps I'll just replace it with a Powerbook, cuz I'm fer dam sure never buying another Sony product as long as I live.
