Eh... not so much

Change has come to America

Today's bullet points re not getting a damn thing done!

  • I am at work.

  • And hardly working.

  • The odds of us getting out early aren't great.

  • I finally bought a cool new camera bag the other day, and naturally I found it online this morning for cheaper. Arrrrgh! Oh well, way to support a local merchant? Sheesh, between this and the engine flush crap, I spent way too much money that we don't really have. Must do more research in future.

  • Speaking of the camera, I am trying to buy a replacement lens cap for my telephoto lens. It is 62mm wide, not 67 like my other lens cap. Or 52 like the 50mm prime lens. ARGH. If I buy it online, even via Amazon, I will pay a redonkulous amount of money for shipping. I tried calling the local camera store, but no one was picking up. I just want to know if they will be open today, so I can swing by and grab the right size lens cap.

  • Just reinstalled Greasemonkey on my PC, and added a ton of Flickr and LJ scripts. Shiny!

  • So I really did go to the gym this morning around 5:50 a.m. to do a Turbulence Training strength workout... aaaaand the gym was closed. They must be opening later due to the NYE holiday. So of course I turned around, went home, read LJ, and didn't work out at all. My plan now is to get on the treadmill this evening, before the NYE party. Not only will I get a workout in, I will earn useful activity points for party noshing. Plus working out after dinner seems to keep me up late, so I should make it to midnight!

  • I need to make backup plans for when I can't work out. I still tend to be a little all-or-nothing when it comes to exercise.

  • [info]redstapler's gym is not only offering a free weight loss plan to its members, but you can win valuable prizes! Weight loss + prizes = \o/

  • Hubby thinks we can move the fridge downstairs to the rec room, if we get rid of the sofa down there, and then I can still park my car in the garage while the remodeling is going on! Hmmmmm. I don't know if that will work. But I appreciate him trying to devise a way for me to not have to park in the driveway this winter.

  • PS, we will have a lot of furniture to donate: two sofas, a dining room set, coffee & end tables. Everything is in pretty good shape, except the small two-seater sofa which has been used as a kitty scratch pad. But if you're handy, you can re-cover it and it will be fine. If you are interested in any of this stuff, please let me know. Otherwise it's all going to Homefront.

  • I have a funny concept for today's and tomorrow's Photo of the Day. I hope I can make it work.

Weekendy bullet point goodness!

  • Posting from Firefox, not Safari, because for some reason Safari doesn't show the Rich Text option when posting via LJ. And I feel too lazy to write my own HTML.
  • Busy busy day yesterday: We drove back to Niece Lumber to borrow our cabinet sample again, so we could go floor shopping at Lumber Liquidators. Paint Barn so totally fubar'ed our quote, that we are concerned about working with them. (They had forgotten to include the living room in the quote. So their revised quote is $3500 more than the original.) Lumber Liquidators is basically a warehouse with floor samples set up, and you either haul it away and install yourself, or your contractor organizes the installation. (Yes, we would opt for the second.) We found three samples we liked, and we wrote to Kathy to ask her opinion. Of course our favorite sample was also the most expensive. But it's Brazilian ebony, and the grain is very soft and smooth and consistent. It's supposed to be very hard, and the color is more consistent.)
  • We took a gadget back to Best Buy, and were impressed by the streamlining of their return process. In and out of the store in five minutes. Nice!
  • We did a little shopping at Target.
  • I found a cool camera shop, where I spent some of my birthday/Christmas/camera sale money on a big new camera bag that should hold alll my stuff, a new cushion-y camera strap, and a backup lens cap. Unfortunately it wasn't the right size for my 70-300mm lens, but it works on my 18-70mm. It's a neat place, with tons of old-school metal camera bodies around! Nice to know there's a good place around if I need it.
  • Hit the wine store on the way home, and bought a case of mixed bottles. Between sales and some 10% discount they applied, it worked out to about $10 a bottle! I just feel happier with a full wine fridge. Also read that the wine store is creating some kind of membership program with special sales and coupons. We will be signing up for that!
  • Came home, chilled out, ate some leftover lasagna, drank a little wine (yum!), and I watched the Patriots-Giants game. What a game! Congrats to the Patriots, Tom Brady & Randy Moss for setting all those records last night. And thank you for beating the Giants. Ha HA.
  • OK, to be fair, the Giants played great. Good try, guys. You had 'em scared for most of the game.
  • Today, got up, did food shopping, and I took the car to Jiffy Lube. It needed an engine flush, and they recommended the fuel injectors be cleaned. I had thought we hadn't been getting as good gas mileage as we should. I may try taking it to the dealership for its 20,000 mile service (only 3,785 miles overdue!), and maybe they can do that.
  • Well, poop, just read a blog post that said engine flushes are not necessary. Grrrr.
  • Local dealership lets you e-mail a request for maintenance. Nice.
  • Hubby smoked a turkey breast! We will have that later with sweet potatoes. Nummy!
  • Watching the Eagles game, although I might decided to switch it off and save my focus for the Colts-Titans game tonight. I've found I can only concentrate on about one game a day for the entire game.
  • My copy of Keith's book arrived the other day! I couldn't read the texts of the Special Comments yet -- too painful -- but his introductions to each are really fun and interesting. If you are so inclined, post an honest review over on Amazon. The haters are copying down talking points from Billo and putting them in 1-star reviews. Probably wouldn't even dare to actually read it, in case a contrary viewpoint made its way accidentally into their shrunken frontal lobes.
  • OK, back to the L&O: SVU marathon on USA. Heh.

The auction for my camera is over! It was listed at $200 on Wednesday, and just sold for $320! I get about two-thirds of that! (Which totally covers the price of my latest lens!) Now all I have to do is sit back and wait for my check! YAY!

I ordered my lens on the night of the 3rd, and it was on my doorstep when I got home today! Huz-zah! Adorama is in New York and their warehouse is in New Jersey. So even going USPS is super speedy. I will post some of my experiments with the lens in a few!

ETA: I made a new userpic with me and my camera for camera-related goodness. Thank you, Photo Booth!

My in-laws just sent me a $50 Amazon gift certificate! So I went ahead and applied it to the purchase of this lens! I ordered it through Amazon via Adorama. I bought a camera cable from them last week on Sunday night, and it arrived Tuesday. Here’s hoping the lens arrives just as soon! I also ordered a UV filter, on sale for only $7. I always get the UV filters for my lenses. I’d much rather replace a cracked filter than a cracked lens.

Now my lens kit is complete. I’ve got the 18-70mm Nikkor lens that I bought along with my D70. Hubby gave me the 70-300mm telephoto lens for Christmas last year. And now I’ll have the wide aperture fixed lens. Pretty much anything I would need!

Weekend update!

Hubby and I motored down to my parents' place for an impromptu birthday gathering for yours truly. Also known as, my folks made a huge pot of chili for their friends the night before and still had tons left over so would we like to come down and eat their leftovers? The chili was surprisingly good! They also had nice salad greens with feta, sliced almonds and dried cranberries to put on it. Yummy!

Then prezzie time! Everyone had pretty much bought stuff straight from my Amazon list, so no huge surprises. But I still appreciate the gifts! Parents got me the flexible tripod, the digital field guide on how to use my speedlight flash, and a new extra battery for my camera. Hubby got me a new SD card (great timing, I think my original one is starting to die) and Double Indemnity on DVD!

There was some pretty good cake, and "Party Time" ice cream, vanilla with bits of cake in it. That was pretty nice!

I had seen my friend Suzerella at the mall earlier that day. She has almost-4-year-old twins, a boy and a girl, and my mom is completely dotty about them. So I invited her to bring the kids by for dessert. It took a minute for them to warm up, but then they were rabbiting on about pictures they'd drawn and all kinds of stuff. They ate a ton (for little kids) of ice cream and cake, and they played with the Nativities my mom had on the bay window. My parents collect Nativities, everything from traditional sets to potholders and mugs. They have 135 of them. I kid you not. The ones on the windowsill were toys: a Playmobil version, one made of felt that buttoned to a Christmas tree, yadda yadda. The kids must have played with them for almost an hour! (And in their version of the Christmas story, the Three Kings can fly!) It was fun sitting around with Suz just chatting. I showed her all my camera stuff, and we talked cameras for a while. (She's my friend who's trying to get a wedding photography biz off the ground, and if she ever has a solid local gig I'm going to be her assistant!)

The kids and my parents hadn't seen each other in over a year, we think, and Suz felt bad. She said they have to spend more time with their bonus mom-mom and pop-pop. Which Hubby and I are all for. Let them borrow other kids if they feel like they need grandma/grandpa time! They're really sweet kids. But they are exhausting. I can't imagine how Suz gets the energy to get up and moving every day. Just listening to them for a couple hours wore me out!

And actually this was kind of funny. Apparently my dad had lined up the Nativities in the windowsill himself that afternoon. So when he saw the kids messing up his arrangement, he was freaking a little! My mom was all, "But that's what they're for!" Heh.

So after all the errand-running and birthdaying on Saturday -- we didn't get home till after 10:30 -- it was super to have yesterday just for lounging around. Poor Hubby did have to work on a proposal though, but at least he could do it at home in his sweatpants. I chilled out, watched the Eagles game (depressing), hit the treadmill for a while, and made meatloaf and roast cauliflower for dinner. I never even left the house! We didn't get much snow, just some on the grass and cars and roofs. And the rain washed most of it away by evening.

I have Friday off for my birthday. Yay! I've organized my week so I don't have to cook dinner or work out that day! The only thing we have to do is meet with Kathy at a hardware place to pick out fixtures for the powder room. I have no idea what else I'm going to do with my day. I considered going to the movies, but there isn't really anything interesting released this week. I don't want to spend a lot of money, and Hubby's company party is Saturday night so I want to save my points. I don't want to drive down to Philly or take the train into NYC. I'm considering taking the shuttle over to Princeton and just strolling around, maybe take my camera and play. I'll have to see what the weather holds. Or -- oooh! -- I could go to Grounds for Sculpture and check out the art and take pictures! I should be able to find something reasonably fun and cheap to do. Of course, just puttering around the house in my jammies sounds appealing too! If you have any good ideas, put them in the comments!

1. Nikon D80:
The Nikon D80 is my latest digital SLR camera. I've always enjoyed photography, and I finally got to take Photography 101 in fall of my senior year. I still haven't learned what all the options on the camera do, and when I would want to use one over the other, but I'm learning. Here's a recent one I'm happy with. Click to embiggen:
Leaves

2. Swordfish
Not the crappy movie with Hugh Jackman and John Travolta from a few years ago, but referring to the tasty and delectable actual fish. I like it best grilled , with a little salt and pepper. Yum yum yum! It's low in points and Core! Sadly it's also high in mercury, so I don't have it as often as I would like.

3. Wil Wheaton
A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away, Wil Wheaton played Wesley Crusher on Star Trek: The Next Generation. Nowadays, he has a blog, if you haven't heard. He has become a frickin' funny guy, and apparently a very nice man and a good stepdad to his wife's two sons. I subscribe to his blog. You should too!

4. Autumn
Autumn is my favorite season! Real autumn, not this 80-degrees-in-October bullshit. I love the cooler weather, wearing sweaters and boots, and of course the foliage. After three whole months of sweating my behind off, I'm looking forward to cool nights. And that reminds me of a passage from The Hellbound Heart by Clive Barker...
The seasons long for each other, like men and women, in order that they may be cured of their excesses.

Spring, if it lingers more than a week beyond its span, starts to hunger for summer to end the days of perpetual promise. Summer in its turn soon begins to sweat for something to quench its heat, and the mellowest of autumns will tire of gentility at last, and ache for a quick sharp frost to kill its fruitfulness.

Even winter -- the hardest season, the most implacable -- dreams, as February creeps on, of the flame that will presently melt it away. Everything tires with time, and starts to seek some opposition, to save it from itself.

So August gave way to September, and there were few complaints.

5. Childless by Choice
Yup, I don't have kids. We don't have kids. Unless Hubby and I do a complete 180 in our thinking, it will probably stay that way. If I ever stop thinking of having children in terms of all the things I would have to give up -- free time, sleep, extra cash, energy, dinners out at restaurants that don't have placemats to color -- maybe that will change.

I used to identify as childfree, but that's become a loaded term. To me, it means people like the guy on the old childfree newsgroup I haunted from 1997 through 2000, who insisted that to be a member of the newsgroup, all women should have tubals. Let me repeat that: to belong to an online Usenet newsgroup about being childfree, women had to have had their tubes tied. Uhhhh, no. I realize that's the fringe element talking, but I don't need that in my life.

I sort of agree with those who feel "childless" implies that there's something missing in your life, but "childfree" has just become too much of a minefield. The "by choice" is to indicate that this is by preference, and not because I'm infertile and desperately wanting to have a child or anything like that.

6. New Jersey
New Jersey is a pretty decent state in which to live! I have done so since the year 2000. My job (except for 2002-2004) has been here. I met my husband here. I got married here. We adopted our kitties here. In an hour, you can be enjoying New York or Philadelphia or the beach. You can be in the middle of suburbia, then drive twenty minutes and be at a working farm. Hubby (who is from Kansas originally) came here for his second interview where he now works, and was surprised to find that New Jersey was not all industrial parks and chemical factories. Unless Hubby gets a job elsewhere, here is probably where we shall stay.

7. WPITW
WPITW stands for "Worst Person in the World," a regular feature on Countdown with Keith Olbermann. As he explains it in the foreword to his book of the same name:

They aren’t really the worst persons in the world, of course.

Somewhere somebody’s ending freedom, or sticking a shiv into a witness, or defrauding an orphan, or bombing a home. And there’s almost nobody in this book who—in any kind of empirical analysis of the worst person in the world at a given moment—could truly hold a candle to any of them.

But my guys and gals have all, in their own ways, tried.

Orphans may have nothing to fear, and freedom is more likely to hurt itself laughing at them than to be hurt by their Rube Goldbergian machinations. But these Worsts (if you’ll permit the term) are the mortal enemies of honesty and dignity, of selflessness and class.

Here's a sample from the September 6, 2007 Countdown show:

Camera question
keith WTF
[info]eh_notsomuch
I sent my D70 camera back to Nikon about 3 weeks ago to have the flash latch fixed. (It won't latch closed when you press the flash back down.) My plan was to get the body fixed and sell it on eBay, along with all the other D70-related gear I have. (A couple books, a book on CD, a camera bag, the remote, a couple used CompactFlash cards.)

Nikon sent me an estimate yesterday. It's out of warranty so it will take $226.50 to fix! I had no idea it would be that much!

In good condition, from what I've seen on eBay, I could maybe expect to get around $250-300 for the body alone. With all the other stuff, maybe it goes to $300-350.

So do I pay the $226 to fix it, or just sell it as is along with all the other gear?

Busy weekend
tina fey white slacks
[info]eh_notsomuch
Weather for July 23Jeebus, but it's pouring down rain. Has been since about 5:30 this morning and it doesn't look like it'll let up anytime soon. The picture here from WeatherPixie is solely for climate illustration purposes and does not illustrate my current size, shape, or hairstyle. Although I appreciate the old-school orange iBook. Hee. Cute.

At least the weekend was nice. Saturday, the weather was perfect, sunny and dry with a good breeze. I walked over to the farmers' market and got more blueberries, some peaches and potatoes. Mmmm. Then I finally -- finally! -- got my Nikon D70 packed up and shipped off to be repaired. (The flash won't stay latched when you press it down.) I discovered the joy of using the post office's shipping machine in the lobby. It weighed my package, suggested I ship Priority for slightly faster arrival and only 9 cents more, and printed out my label for me! No standing in line? Sah-weet.

Then back home to pack up the car with stuff to donate. We had a box of things like an old laptop, an old PDA, which we didn't need anymore, so we took it to the Rescue Mission of Trenton. They have an eBay store too, but none of our stuff was worth selling, so I just donated it. Whatevah, it's out of our house, right? We went on to the library where my mom works to give them four boxes of books and videos, so they can turn around and sell them. It's been a while since I've been in there. I hardly recognize anybody, and nobody recognized me.

We went on to my folks' house, where I expected to find my mom with her nose in Deathly Hallows. No, apparently when UPS hadn't delivered her copy to the house, she went to the library and locked herself in a back room reading the book! The same library where I'd been five minutes previously! Sheesh. We offered to take Dad and Brother out to lunch, but Brother'd already eaten, and Dad was being made to stay home and wait for the UPS guy! I called Mom to see if she wanted to take a break and have lunch with us, but she honestly admitted she'd rather stay and read.

Yes, you heard it here. My mother gave up a free lunch with her only daughter to read Harry Potter. Priorities, people.

Lunch was just Subway sandwiches back at the house, but it was nice hanging out and chatting with my dad. Yes, he watches Fox Noise and Bill Orally, but he's a pretty good guy nonetheless.

Stopped off at the wine store to replenish our dwindling supplies, and caught a sale on Sebastiani cab sauv, Hubby's favorite! In recognition of our many accomplishments, we chilled out for the rest of the day. I did go out later and buy a few things for our dinner party last night, because the tandoori chicken I wanted to make needed to marinate overnight.

Yesterday we both worked out, then shopped at Whole Foods. We also got a lot of tidying up done. I cooked most of the late afternoon. Everything actually came together pretty well. I was doing an Indian buffet, and I made chickpea cauliflower curry and kept it warm in the crockpot. Around 6:00 I put the chicken in the oven and boiled water for rice, and started cooking the saag paneer at around 6:30. Everybody arrived at 7:00 while I was dishing stuff out!

The food was a huge hit. Tandoori chicken, curry, saag paneer, brown basmati rice, and steamed carrots. Best of all, all the recipes came from various Weight Watchers sources! Yay! So I ate more than I should, but at least it was all tasty and nootrishus.

For the tasty and un-nootrishus portion of the evening, Hubby debuted one of the recipes from the ice cream recipe book he got for his birthday, Saffron Ice Cream! Did you know saffron haz a flavor? I had no idea! Hubby thinks it's similar to vanilla crossed with tea. Whatever it was, it was totally unique and tasty. And it had that cool color. It was a very good time. I rock the dinner party 'verse.

Yep, it's still raining, of course it is. Because today I have to go to the other building to help the training classes with their practice sessions. But of course!

  • Best mashup in the world: Pussycat Dolls "Doncha" + Prince "When the Doves Cry." Amazing!

  • I set up X-Files to DVR this afternoon. It's the "Orison" episode -- yes, with my TV boyfriend Nick. His second appearance on the show playing the same character, Donnie Pfaster. I've seen it before, but there's a shot of him in tighty whities, and it's breathtaking! I'm sure he's very intelligent and a good person, but damn. BEEFCAKE! (It's on at 5 p.m. ET on Sci Fi!)

  • I totally failed at self-control at this weekend's food events. I scarfed food at the party on Friday night. Then I ate bingey food before our guests came over for dinner, plus I had two helpings of ribs. Ugh, I felt so gross even this morning. I didn't think calling out for fatness would be acceptable, so I had some Pepto and came to work. Yay me.

  • I did make my own barbecue sauce from scratch yesterday, thank you very much! Hubby said it was not bad, but I guess to him it's not as good as Gates barbecue sauce from Kansas City. But I liked it. So there.

  • Plus this Thursday is the day I'm taking off to hang out with Dr. H. Still don't know what we're doing, but hey! We won't be at work, and that's the point!

  • Another thing to discuss with the designer lady about our living room: we desperately need more comfy chairs so when we have guests over, we can sit with our coffee and chat. Everyone stayed at the dining room table after dinner last night, and the chairs get kind of hard after a while.

  • Our one friend brought her boyfriend to dinner last night, but gave Hubby the heads-up that she might be breaking up with him. I'm not 100% sure why. He seems nice and fun. He has kids, but if that doesn't put her off, then I'm not sure what the problem is. So that may have been the last time we see him. Odd!

  • Hubby's pal and best man from our wedding is still single, and I don't understand that either. You've never met a guy more eager to settle down, get married, kids, dog, et cetera. He's cute, he loves kids, he's funny and smart. Yet every single female we know makes this face when we suggest him as a potential date, like, "Ohhhhhh, I don't think so..." I doangeddit.

  • We stopped in at the Princeton Fete on Saturday. The big draw seems to be the flea market and rides for the kids. We don't care for flea markets all that much, and we have no kids, so we didn't stick around for a long time. We did try to meet up with our friend who was on the organizing committee, and we called her from the stage where the music was playing, so she knows we were there. We also said hi to another friend who can verify our attendance.

  • OK, got work to do. See ya later.

It's heeeeere!

It was such a nice afternoon after I (zipped) got home I decided to sit out on the front step and (wait for the UPS guy) read! Sure enough, I got home first, and the UPS guy brought it right to me. I'm charging the battery right now!

Boy, it's so much lighter than the D70 and more compact too. I can't wait to try it with the lens and speedlight!

The good news: I got an automated call from UPS to let me know my package from Amazon -- i.e., my new Nikon D80! -- is arriving tomorrow!

The bad news: They require someone be there to sign for it. Argh! And to be helpful, they let me know that the delivery would be made sometime between 8:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Oh. Thanks.

Also, Hubby is going out with a friend for dinner, so she'll probably pick him up right from the office after work, and he probably won't come home. Usually when UPS delivers something, it's after 5:00 p.m., so I might get home on time and meet them. Unless they come in the middle of the afternoon.

Ooh, annoying. If we could stay home all day waiting for UPS, how could we afford to buy anything that requires UPS shipping?!?!?!?

Well, I got 1 vote for "Buy the new camera", and 4 for I LIKE TO CLICK BUTTONS! (Y'all are sick.) So if Bush can consider 51% of the vote a mandate, I can consider mine a landslide!

I bought it. And a 2 gig SD card. Whee! It'll be here on the 30th.

Shiny.

Edited to add: Like the Senate last night, some of you voted after the decision was already made. To that I say, thank you for validating my choice! Kudos!

I got money burning a hole in my pocket, and I want a new camera, bad. The D80 to be precise. Yes, I know I will have to buy all new memory cards, because the D80 takes SD's, and my D70 takes CompactFlash. And I will have to fix up and sell the D70 body at some point. (Do you know how many D70 bodies are for sale on EBay? Hundreds of people must have done exactly what I'm contemplating.)

I mean, the D70 is a perfectly fine camera, and I enjoy it and all. But I am in the throes of gadget lust. So I turn it over to you.

Edited to add: Young [info]jaig has a good point there. What are the other advantages of the new D80 over the old D70? Old in this case meaning about 2 years, but such is the way of all tech. Here's the Amazon page about it. Ooh, and I see it's back in stock with Amazon, so the shipping would be free! (I would prefer to buy from Amazon, because I have their Chase Visa card, and I get 3 points for every dollar I spend on their site. 2500 points = $25 gift certificate. It's a nice deal.)

One big thing is that it has 11 autofocus points, instead of the 5 that the D70 has. It has 10.2 megapixels, instead of the 7.1(I think) that the D70 has. It's also supposed to be a bit lighter and more compact. That's a help, because camera + fancy 300mm telephoto lens + new speedlight flash all together are getting heavy. It apparently has a lot of the features in their higher-end D200 camera, without me having to spend $2000 on it. Finally, like I talked about the other day, I think I want to pursue the photography thing even more, and I want to get more into the wedding photo biz with my friend. Plus, gadget lust. Plus, money & pocket & what's that burning smell? Does that help?

I got a little exercise this weekend, finally! Yesterday my hairdresser had a cancellation, so I got my hair cut. I walked over to the shop instead of driving, because it was so nice out. My allergies started to give me a bit of grief, but nothing big. I love my short new haircut! I'll try & post a picture soon.

I also actually went to the gym today. I was a bit surprised my card was still good. I put a video on my iPod and watched that while I did cardio. It's a little too small to comfortably watch

The rest of the day was just relaxing, playing around with videos. Hubby and I watched a ton of DVR'd stuff.

Today was a belated after-Easter get-together at my aunt's. It was originally scheduled for the 15th, but that of course was the day of the huuuuuuge rains, so she didn't want anyone driving in that. Today was fun. Got to see my cousins' kids, very cute. I also got a great picture of the whole family out on the deck, using the timer and the tripod. I downloaded it to my uncle's PC (so he gets to make copies for everyone, not me), and he made a print, and everyone loved it.

Finally got to play with the new Speedlight flash unit. It was definitely firing off, and I think I got some good shots, but I have no idea what all the little settings mean. And the booklet that it comes with is pretty near useless. I need to research on the Internets and find some better info.

I'm somewhat worried about the built-in flash on the D70. For some reason it stays popped up and won't latch. It fired a couple times today when I didn't want it to. I don't know if it's something I can fix. I was thinking of moving to the D80 next year. I have the cash to do it now if I want. But selling the D70 would defray the cost, and I don't know if anyone would want it if the flash won't stay locked down. Hmmm.

OK, I really want to get to the gym and do weights tomorrow. I'm glad I'm not weighing myself anymore. The numbers on the scale always took a long time to move whenever I was lifting fairly regularly, and recently I'd been skipping weights just to get the numbers down. There's so many important reasons to lift weights to burn fat. Go hit the Google and find out! Anyway, so I better get to bed so I can get up at 5:00. G'night!

What the hell can I accomplish in 9 minutes? It's Friday. It's dead quiet. Why can't I go home already?

I've watched two episodes of Murder One on my 'pod, and it's all out of juice.

It's been raining all day, and I've seen flood warnings extended throughout the afternoon. Do I have another "9 miles in 2 1/2 hours" drive home to look forward to?

No plans for tonight or tomorrow. Just stay in, stay dry, and veg out. Sunday, we have that rescheduled family get-together in south Jersey. Maybe tomorrow I'll dig out my camera and figure out how to use the speedlight flash, so I can get some good pics of everyone.

Ooh, it's 4:29! I can get ready to go soon! See you later!

Our new second camera

is this, I believe.

The Engadget guys recommended the Pentax Optio WPI for our waterproof digital camera needs, and it looks pretty good. But I just read about the Olympus today, and it seems even sweeter! It's a bit more expensive, but it has one more megapixel and a larger LCD.

This would make a great second camera for us. I still want the Nikon D70 for the great long lens, the quick response, the beautiful photos. But the Olympus would be great for trips to the beach, for kayaking, hiking. And it's better suited for handing over to other people to take pictures of us. The Nikon tends to scare them!
