The weirdest thing...
me @ panera
Was just checking my online credit card statement, and there was a $1.37 credit from MACYS EAST 0129 on Thursday, October 21.

Which wouldn't normally bother me, except I wasn't in a Macy's on October 21, or anywhere else on the 21st, or any Macy's in months.

So I called the credit card company. They couldn't find a corresponding charge. All I could think was that maybe some fraudster was just trying combinations of credit card numbers and expiration dates until they got one that worked.

The operator asked if I'd like to cancel the card, and I decided to go ahead and do so. I guess being overly cautious with credit cards is better than not being cautious enough.

Has this happened to anyone else out there?

Edited to add: Moving this entry up to the front page, as it keeps getting attention and comments.

Never happened to me, but that is a very interesting way to find good numbers. You give a few dollars, which I would assume would make the average person who doesn't pay much attention very happy ... until those dollars are taken back, with quite a few more!!

Not exactly.
About a month ago I tried to go online to check my bank account and I was locked out. I called, and they said I had entered the incorrect password too many times the previous day, so they locked the account. Of course, I hadn't been to my online banking account in about a week. Apparently someone had tried to hack in with a "correct" userid, but couldn't figure out my password.

I had them unlock the account and immediately changed both my userid and password.

This happened to me the week before we closed on our house. BoA actually caught it and I closed the card immediately.

That is creepy, and I think you did the right thing by canceling that card.

i once tried to pay for a soda at an interstate resttop with my credit union card, and it wouldn't go through. When i called the credit union, they said they flag tiny purchases (under $2) because those are usual 'test runs' for fraudsters. i bet the 'credit' strategy is them trying to get around that. SNEAKY! Glad you caught it!

2 charges

I just noticed i have 2 charges from Macy's East 129 from yesterday!! We don't even have a Macy's arround where i live, and i don't do much online shopping!!

Oh, that's FREAKY. Call your credit card company!!!

Same here. I found this article online:

Appears this is a common spot for stolen accounts to be used? People are so ridiculous. Canceled my card and I'm good now. Hope it worked for you!

I had a charge from this store back in July or August, but it got removed by Macy's w/o me doing anything because some info didn't match up. Well I just looked today and I had 3 more charges there all an hour apart from each other, at the same store on 12/29. I have emailed both 5/3 (odd that both of us had it happen with the same bank/card) and Macy's hopefully we can get this resolved.

it just happened to mion

This happened to me today, finally I remembered that I wanted to purchase a shirt online from Macy's but they didn't have it in stock so after more than 3 months they are about to send it and are charging me for it.

I found your article by searcing on "Pending MACY*S EAST #0129" which appeared on my credit card account. I am in the Air Force and have been deployed over seas for more than a year, I certainly have never set foot in any Macy's. They charged more than $1,000 to my card at this store, Radio Shack, and I'm trying to contact my bank now, but they are closed until Monday. Looks like I'm about to start my battle.

Damn! Well, thank you for your service, and give your credit card company he'll.

I also just had this happen, $164 and some change charged at Macy's East 0129. The charge is no longer on my account at all though super weird.

I just caught this on an account that I had paid off a couple of months ago! To the tune of about $250. I called my credit card company and they had no problem taking the charge off and canceling the card.

Same thing

Happened to me as well. I contacted Macy's and got all of the shipping info. Between this charge and others, I think I found the person. If you pursue it and find out where things were going, I would be curious.

Just found a charge on my account for over 600.00. Called bank and informed them and issuing a new card. Strange that we renewed a membership on the same date as charge and gave account number and 3 number code also.

Just happened to me, too.
They charged me $45.34 three times.

17.05.2011 MASON MACY*S EAST #0129 USA 5311 Department stores 45.34 USD

Dunno what to do... :(

Call your credit card company, say you never authorized the charges, and cancel your card. The minor inconvenience of changing your card number is far easier to deal with than damage to your credit report!

same thing....

my card was charged twice for MACY*S EAST #0129 MASON OH. one for 535.75 and the other for 22.40. called the bank and they say it was a debit card transaction, but i am florida and have never been to ohio. there is only one card so obviously they duplicated the card. these are pros, but i'm sure they will get caught sooner or later.

Ok that's werid because i had a $75.00 charge from Macys east #0129 on my check card last week!!! I don't shop at Macys!!!

My mother called me this morning to tell me her credit card co had called her about suspicious activity on her lister hill card. I pulled up her statement and it said there was a charge from Macy's East for $333. I want to know where this particular store is located.

Wow, I just had a charge of $603.75 on my Discover card June 8th from Macy's, but have never shopped there. As a matter of fact, there is not a store close by that I would go to. I am trying to get this resolved. I hope someone catches this person SOON!

It happened to me too. I noticed that a charge of $ 120.00 charged three times on my credit card recently. I talked to my credit card company and they immediately cancelled the card and are going to re-issue the new card.

Thanks for posting thread

I just had a charge of $303 on my account from Macy*s East 0129. Called my bank and they said I cannot dispute it until it actually "clears" my account because it still shows pending. It's totally screwing my money situation up!! They immediately cancelled my debit card, and I have to dispute it once it comes out. Glad I'm not the only one!!

Same here.

I only use PayPal and Amazon to shop online and recently my debit card was completely drained. One of the biggest purchases being at Macy's East #0129. This is ridiculous. I have my debit card on me still, but this charge shows up as a debit card purchase. I don't get it.

And this all happened on Thursday evening, all charges were pending until Wednesday because of the 4th of July holiday weekend, and now it's Thursday again and the Macy's charge just went through. BofA says they will put all the money back in my account by tomorrow morning, but I just don't feel safe anymore. Whoever stole my numbers even knew my name because they had packages delivered to my name in Oregon, a state I've never been to.

I wonder if this is a distribution center for their online purchases, and if not, I hope someone looks in to this Macy's location is so much fraud is going on here.
